Star wasps are ill-tempered, territorial magical insects that live in symbiosis with the bleak banyan fig tree. A single star wasp pulsates with faint white light, but otherwise resembles a normal wasp or hornet. In swarms, they form a hive mind with basic sentience. Its low cunning is little more than that of a very bright dog, but it is sufficient to make it more dangerous and unpredictable than any mundane vermin could ever be.

Combat

A star wasp swarm tries to surround and attack any living creature it encounters. A swarm deals 1d6 points of damage to any creature whose square it occupies at the end of its move.

Distraction (Ex): Any living creature that begins its turn with a star wasp swarm in its space must succeed on a DC 13 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Poison (Ex): Injury, Fortitude DC 15, initial 1d8 Dex and secondary 1d2 Con. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Hive Mind (Ex): Any star wasp swarm with at least 1 hit point per Hit Die (or 6 hit points for a standard star wasp swarm) forms a hive mind, giving it an Intelligence score of 3. When a star wasp swarm is reduced below this hit point threshold, it becomes mindless.
