Possessions: horseshoes of speed, pony, masterwork military saddle, masterwork whip, cold iron kukri, mighty composite shortbow [+1 Str], 20 arrows.

Barth Ewell settled in Keriel's turn about twenty years ago, by his own count, and set up shop as a farrier, horse doctor, and horse trader soon afterwards, enjoying a brisk business almost from the outset because of his rapidly-garnered reputation as businessman of unusual skill and honesty, who has forgotten more than most individuals ever learn about the care of equines.

Everyone who knows Barth seems to like him, for reasons ranging from his gruff kindness, to his willingness to share juicy tidbits of gossip about his customers, most of whom are merchants or barge captains in need of his services. He's also uncommonly perceptive, which has stood him in good stead recently because of Nerraella Tinnilstrathor's attempts to become friendly with him as a means of turning his knowledge of caravan and shipping movements to the advantage of the Black Purse. While Ewell is unaware of Nerraella's true motives, he smells something fishy and doesn't trust her.

*Almost all of Lelaras’ funds are tied up in the library. He rarely carries valuables with him but owns a virtually unlimited supply of basic library essentials, such as parchment, ink, quills, magnifying glasses and the like.

Personality:
Lelaras Kenivelson is a very typical bookworm. He loves everything about literature and often times forgets to take meals because he’s so wrapped up in a reading project. Early in his adult life, he signed on with an adventuring group, having heard stories about the great wealth of hidden and lost books just waiting to be found in the dark places where nobody goes. After a year, however, he woke up to the realities of the danger of adventuring when he saw one of his teammates killed. After this rude awakening, he liquidated the wealth he had acquired and bought the old library in Free Haven. Originally he just wanted the wealth of books inside, but once he saw what he had, he just couldn’t keep it to himself and began working towards sharing his new purchase with the world.

Teaching Style:
Lelaras Kenivelson is an exceptionally patient and understanding person. He works with a class as long as it takes for them to understand what he’s trying to teach them. Most of his free time is spent tutoring those with schedules that conflict with normal class times and those that just need a little bit of extra attention. He rarely loses his temper and he never allows any of his students to feel like they can’t accomplish the goals they set for themselves.

Ragnon Delver, Instructor
Male dwarf warrior 2/ expert 1:
CR 2; Medium humanoid (dwarf); Hit Dice 2d8+1d6+9; 24 hp; Init +0; Spd 20 ft. (4 squares); AC 10, 10 touch, 10 flat-footed; BAB/Grapple +2/+4; Atk +5 melee (1d4+2/19-20x2 masterwork dagger) or +5 melee (1d3+2 non-lethal, unarmed); Full atk +5 melee (1d4+2/19-20x2 masterwork dagger) or +5 melee (1d3+2 non-lethal, unarmed); SQ darkvision 60 ft., dwarf traits, graduate; AL CG; SV Fort +4, Reflex +0, Will +2; Str 14, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 10.
Skills and Feats: Climb +5, Decipher Script +2, Forgery +2, Gather Information +3, Intimidate +4, Knowledge (geography) +3, Knowledge (history) +4, Knowledge (local) +3, Knowledge (nobility and royalty) +2, Search +2, Speak Language (Common, Dwarven, Elven), Spot +1; Power Attack, Toughness.
Graduate (Ex): Ragnon Delver is a graduate of The Repository. Knowledge (geography) and Knowledge (history) are treated as class skills for him.
Possessions: 37 sp, chainmail (masterwork)*, dagger (masterwork), dwarven urgrosh (masterwork)*, scholar’s outfit, throwing axe (masterwork)*, traveler’s outfit*, sack containing 3 pp, 5 gp, 10 sp, and 10 cp*.
* Items marked with an asterisk are kept in a locked chest in Ragnon’s chambers and are brought out very rarely as a visual aid during certain classes.

Personality:
Ragnon Delver is a distant and somewhat detached individual. He was the third son of a minor noble family in Free Haven. Since the family title was not to be his, he joined the city guard to make his own name. Unfortunately, while on a patrol outside of town, he lost his hand in a skirmish. He was given full honors by the guard, but left their ranks shortly thereafter. His family cursed him for a coward, but the truth was that he simply felt he had nothing left to offer the uniform. Having been taught at the Repository by Lelaras Kenivelson himself when he was young, Ragnon asked for a job teaching and has been doing so for two years now. His missing hand doesn’t impose any difficulty in his work, but his occasional bout with melancholy concerns some of his students and co-workers.

Teaching Style:
Ragnon Delver’s teaching style varies from class to class. When he teaches mathematics or reading comprehension, he is usually easygoing and willing to let the students figure things out for themselves. When he teaches history, though, he adopts a personality much like that of the drill instructor that he had as a cadet in the city guard. He is especially fond of military history and sometimes loses all track of time during a lecture on the subject.

Sheena Spire (CR 3)

Sheena Spire, Instructor
Female human expert 3/ commoner 1:
CR 3; Medium humanoid (human); Hit Dice 3d6+1d4-8; 5 hp; Init -1; Spd 30 ft. (6 squares); AC 9 (-1 Dex), 9 touch, 9 flat-footed; BAB/Grapple +2/+0; Atk +0 melee (1d3-2 non-lethal, unarmed strike); Full atk +0 melee (1d3-2 non-lethal, unarmed); AL LN; SV Fort -1, Reflex +0, Will +6; Str 6, Dex 9, Con 7, Int 15, Wis 13, Cha 12.
Skills and Feats: Appraise +4, Craft (bookbinding) +6, Decipher Script +7, Diplomacy +4, Forgery +5, Gather Information +4, Intimidate +3, Knowledge (architecture and engineering) +4, Knowledge (geography) +5, Knowledge (history) +9, Knowledge (local) +5, Knowledge (nature) +5, Knowledge (religion) +4, Listen +5, Profession (librarian) +4, Search +4, Speak Language (Common, Elven, Dwarven), Spot +5; Diligent, Iron Will, Skill Focus (Knowledge (history)).
Possessions*: scholar’s outfit, 12sp.
Sheena is very old with no family and has little use for the money she is paid for teaching. For the past decade, she has given almost all of her pay as a donation to the Repository, keeping only enough to treat herself to a nice dinner every once in a while.

Personality:
Sheena Spire is sometimes jokingly called the most ancient thing in the Repository. At 61 years old, she expects that her students and peers will defer to her experience in most things. This is not to say that she doesn’t know when to admit that she’s wrong, but she knows that she has seen and done many things and she isn’t about to let some young upstart trivialize that. Despite being as small and frail-looking as she is, Sheena can be quite intimidating. Sheena has a reputation for being slightly crotchety with adults, so she teaches children exclusively. She’s a strict disciplinarian, which causes some children to dislike her, but she cares very passionately about giving children the education she feels they deserve.

Teaching Style:
Sheena Spire is old-fashioned, and teaches children the way that she was taught. If a child misbehaves, he is punished by having to write an apology on the classroom slate stone several dozen times or by being forced to wear a ridiculous dunce hat and sit in the corner. Children that truly cross the line receive a spanking in front of the rest of the class.

Sheena always assigns some small form of homework except on sixth day of class (before the children’s day off). She believes that this helps keep the lessons fresh in the children’s minds so they retain more information. Sheena tends of focus on history, both recent and ancient, as a teaching tool, using it as a reference for teaching about geography, science and the like.

Sha-Hala Es K’ali, Instructor

Favored Enemy (Ex): Sha-Hala Es K’ali gains a +2 bonus on her Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against animals. She gets the same bonus on weapon damage rolls against animals.
Wild Empathy (Ex): Sha-Hala Es K’ali can improve the attitude of an animal in the same way a Diplomacy check can improve the attitude of a sentient being. The total roll is 1d20+1.
Languages: Common, Elven
Possessions: Arrows (x14)*, dagger (masterwork), explorer’s outfit*, leather armor, scholar’s outfit, shortbow (masterwork)*, 15gp, 12sp.
* usually kept in a locked chest in Sha-Hala’s chambers.

Personality:
Sha-Hala Es K’ali is a child of the desert. The harsh conditions of her homeland tend to breed strong, rigid people, capable of surviving anything life throws at them and despising those too weak to at least make an attempt to do the same. This outlook definitely shows through in Sha-Hala. Most people consider her to be gruff at best and outright hostile at worst. She is far removed from her people, though, and has learned to accept the limitations of those not born to her harsh homeland. It is through a desire to help make others better than they otherwise would be that lead her to teach at The Repository.

Teaching Style:
Sha-Hala Es K’ali could accurately be described as “a harsh taskmistress.” She is a competent instructor and her methods are effective, but she is the instructor that the students all hope they don’t get. Sha-Hala keeps a strict class with a strict schedule and expects that her students will keep up with her quick pacing. Whenever possible, she assigns some form of work to be done outside of class. She is wary, though, that Lelaras frowns on a high washout rate among students, so she generally knows when to ease up a bit.

Spell-like abilities: 1/day-dancing lights, ghost sound, prestidigitation, speak with animals (burrowing mammals only, duration 1 minute).CL 1st.The save DC is Charisma-based.
Possessions*: 39 sp, scholar’s outfit.
*Venus has little in the way of personal possessions. She is content simply to live in the Repository and be able to read and examine the books, maps and other materials, most of which were commissioned or purchased by her in the name of the library. The Repository is both her responsibility and her playground, and she considers it to be the only possession she will ever need.

Personality:
Aside from Lelaras Kenivelson, Venus Hallek is perhaps the oldest fixture of the Repository. During the two year period when the building and its contents were undergoing restoration, Lelaras happened upon the little gnome toddler wandering around the building, naked, dirty and crying. After making a good, but ultimately futile, attempt to locate her parents, Lelaras raised her as though she were his own child. She literally grew up inside of the Repository, and there are many things about it she knows that not even Lelaras is aware of.

Many people think that Venus is too serious, and indeed, she takes her job as head librarian very seriously. However, she is as happy-go-lucky as any gnome when she’s not working. Growing up, she explored every nook and cranny of the Repository and made a habit of reading every book that caught her eye. If she didn’t know the language a book was written in, she had Lelaras teach it to her. Even today, her hunger for learning manifests itself obviously, as she is almost never to be seen without her nose in a book.

Teaching Style:
Venus Hallek might be one of the most qualified individuals in the Repository to teach, but she never does. Her current excuse is that she’s too old to put up with having to teach, but much like the other explanations she has used over the years, this is just an excuse to keep her time free. She would much rather be reading a new book than teaching from one she has already read.
