Since long before recorded history, the Black Moor (simply called Blackmoor by most) has had a reputation as a dark and evil place.  Stories and legends circulate about the horrible things that go on within its borders.  So deep run the roots of fear and loathing that mothers all over the world use Blackmoor as an idle threat to get their children to behave (“Little boys who don’t eat their vegetables end up as flesh-eating ghouls in Blackmoor.”) The land itself is almost entirely a single giant salt marsh.  In many places, it’s difficult to determine what is land and what isn’t.  Quagmires and quicksand, stirges and otyugs, snakes and alligators… these things and more make the land treacherous and deadly, but as if that weren’t dangerous enough, the undead walk freely within Blackmoor.  Many people believe that the land itself creates these monstrosities.  Scholars say that this is probably not the case and cite the existence of so many necromancers who come from the Moor as their proof.  Others blame the legendary Kriegan, the ancient college of necromancy that is said to reside somewhere in Blackmoor.  Whatever the reason for the large number of undead, Blackmoor is generally avoided by anyone possessing a desire to keep their body and soul intact.
