Summonables: Summon Monster II

One of the hardest things about using summon monster spells if you're a new player or DM (or even if you're experienced) is that you have to apply templates to most of the creatures you can summon with these spells. And if your character has the Augment Summoning feat, then you also have to recalculate anything in the creature's stat block that has to do with Strength or Constitution.

Summonables: Summon Monster I

The summon monster spell chain is useful, but it's challenging to players and Dungeon Masters alike because it summons a lot of different creatures, applying the celestial or fiendish templates many of them. The Augment Summoning feat from the Core Rules additionally modifies the summoned creature's Strength and Constitution scores, which changes its hit points, Fortitude save, and usually its grapple modifier, attack and damage modifiers, and skill check modifiers as well.

Gnome Bard

I decided to start with a gnome for the bard class. Gnome is the only core race with the bard class as its favored class, so I thought it would be fitting.

*Almost all of Lelaras’ funds are tied up in the library. He rarely carries valuables with him but owns a virtually unlimited supply of basic library essentials, such as parchment, ink, quills, magnifying glasses and the like.

Personality:
Lelaras Kenivelson is a very typical bookworm. He loves everything about literature and often times forgets to take meals because he’s so wrapped up in a reading project. Early in his adult life, he signed on with an adventuring group, having heard stories about the great wealth of hidden and lost books just waiting to be found in the dark places where nobody goes. After a year, however, he woke up to the realities of the danger of adventuring when he saw one of his teammates killed. After this rude awakening, he liquidated the wealth he had acquired and bought the old library in Free Haven. Originally he just wanted the wealth of books inside, but once he saw what he had, he just couldn’t keep it to himself and began working towards sharing his new purchase with the world.


Teaching Style:
Lelaras Kenivelson is an exceptionally patient and understanding person. He works with a class as long as it takes for them to understand what he’s trying to teach them. Most of his free time is spent tutoring those with schedules that conflict with normal class times and those that just need a little bit of extra attention. He rarely loses his temper and he never allows any of his students to feel like they can’t accomplish the goals they set for themselves.

You project an extremely unsettling image into the mind of a single target, which makes it seem as though you are changing forms. You have no control over what the target sees, the image is whatever the creature fears the most. Common results are that the target sees you transform into a pile of snakes, spiders or rats or the rotting visage of a dead loved one. Regardless of what the target actually sees, if it fails a Will save, it is too frightened to think clearly enough to make an attack of opportunity against you for the duration of the spell. The target may still act normally otherwise.
