Insert witty quote here, because that seemed to work last time. (Which is definitely how math and probability function...)

I rolled 1d20+6, the result is 19, 6 = 25.
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 6, 3 = 9.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Which roll is which there?

Trigger
Trigger's picture

25 is Perception and 9 is Initiative.

MinusInnocence
MinusInnocence's picture

I love it when we roll initiative!

Perception, initiative
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 11, 3 = 14.
I rolled 1d20, the result is 20 = 20.

Bum bum bum bum... bum bum bum
Budum bud dum duh duh duh duh...

Perception, Initiative
I rolled 1d20+0, the result is 17 = 17.
I rolled 1d20+1, the result is 2, 1 = 3.
Obsidian_Spoon

Perception and Initiative.

I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 4, 5 = 9.
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 6, 3 = 9.

Ranger gets Advantage on Init, right?

MinusInnocence
MinusInnocence's picture

This is no mere ranger.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

I guess you really do love init.

Yes, Cor'val does get to roll Init twice and take the better result.

Obsidian_Spoon
Obsidian_Spoon's picture

Ah, yeah. Thanks.

Initiative, take two.
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 18, 3 = 21.
Obsidian_Spoon
Obsidian_Spoon's picture

Much better, and much appreciated.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

That is much, much better. Once we get init from Charn, we'll be good to go for the second combat of this decidedly goofy dungeon.

MinusInnocence
MinusInnocence's picture

Goofy, indeed. Plants down, monk up - that's the way we like to hyuk.

With so much drama in the D&D,
It's kinda hard bein Lawful G,
But I, somehow, some way,
Keep comin up with funky ass shit like every single day,
May I, kick a little something for PC's,
and, make a few En Pee Cees.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

While we're waiting on the Charn init roll from @Dafyd, I'll go ahead and roll NPCs.

Prythurkan, Darusthanav, Brianna, Kairon, Bird
I rolled 1d20+1, the result is 6, 1 = 7.
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 1, 5 = 6.
I rolled 1d20+2, the result is 5, 2 = 7.
I rolled 1d20+2, the result is 8, 2 = 10.
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 17, 3 = 20.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Aaaaand some bad enough dudes to save the president.

Enemy 7, Enemy 8, Enemy 5, Enemy 4, Enemy 0
I rolled 1d20+2, the result is 15, 2 = 17.
I rolled 1d20+2, the result is 5, 2 = 7.
I rolled 1d20+2, the result is 19, 2 = 21.
I rolled 1d20+0, the result is 20 = 20.
I rolled 1d20+0, the result is 5 = 5.
Dafyd
Dafyd's picture

Init. Sorry. Crazy weekend.

I rolled 1d20+1, the result is 4, 1 = 5.
Obsidian_Spoon
Obsidian_Spoon's picture

Questions. 1) Does moving through an ally's space in 5e cost more movement? 2) Do the coffins cost two squares of movement because they're difficult terrain, and thus rangers can ignore that part? And 3) Do diagonals in your game only count 5ft each, or do they alternate 5ft then 10ft?

Cronono
Cronono's picture

1) Nope. Unless he's not really your ally and he's just an asshole.

2) Coffins are basically furniture, rather than uneven terrain. Poor Cor'val will be impacted by these.

3) Diagonals are always 5ft - the erratic movement rules from 3.5 were done away with in 4e and I'm thankful for that!

Does it look like the now animate objects are going to attack the monk? I'm not sure if I care.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

The swords are most definitely swinging in the general direction of the door. It is entirely possible Eryndir is late on his repayments to the animated sword loan shark, but it is more likely that they intend to kill you all.

There may be other animated objects ready to kill the monk. Your level of caring may depend entirely on your interpretation of the words "good", "evil", "plot", and "loot".

Obsidian_Spoon
Obsidian_Spoon's picture

Cor'val will move into the room, sliding past Eryndir and over the coffen north of him, ending his move in E4. He'll then see what an arrow does to a flying sword, and fire at enemy 7. I think I this'll leave me with 15 arrows. Firing with advantage.

Attack with advantage (ranger), dmg.
I rolled 1d20+7, the result is 4, 7 = 11.
I rolled 1d20+7, the result is 4, 7 = 11.
I rolled 1d8+3, the result is 2, 3 = 5.
Obsidian_Spoon
Obsidian_Spoon's picture

Wow. Die roller said "fuck your advantage".

Cronono
Cronono's picture

The good news is that nobody saw Cor'val miss with advantage. The bad news is that is because Cor'val was surprised and didn't do anything. The other good news is that nobody saw Cor'val being shocked out of his gourd at dancing swords coming out of the darkness. The other bad news is that there are dancing swords coming out of the darkness.

Caleb will cast bless on Brianna and the two Dragonborn. I don't think I'll be moving this turn.

Raising his holy symbol aloft, Caleb's voice booms through the corridor, "Do you have a permit or tax stamp for those animated blades? I thought not!"

"Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag and begin slitting throats." - H.L. Mencken

Cronono
Cronono's picture

Bird, concerned about Brianna's well-being, moves to B5 and smears Brianna with a particularly smelly unguent. It appears to partially heal her wounds.

Cure Wounds
I rolled 1d8+2, the result is 5, 2 = 7.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

There is a sound, from the darkness. The keen eared among you think it is the sound of bone sliding across wood.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

One of the flying swords dances its way over to Eryndir and attempts to slash at him.

Attack, Damage
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 19, 3 = 22.
I rolled 1d8+1, the result is 4, 1 = 5.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

We'll go ahead and call that a hit.

Kairon moves behind Brianna to A6 and casts eldritch blast, targeting the sword attacking Eryndir.

Attack, Damage (Agonizing Blast)
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 10, 5 = 15.
I rolled 1d10+3, the result is 5, 3 = 8.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

The tiefling misses with her 15.

It is now Eryndir's turn. The sword attacking him is in F6.

Trigger
Trigger's picture

Eryndir will move through F5, using 10 feet of movement to scramble over the coffin and into G6 with 5 more feet, drawing his rapier as a free action as he goes. Once there he will Ready an Attack action against the Flying Sword in F6, to be triggered as soon as an ally moves into flanking position.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

IGNORE ME
I rolled 1d20+2, the result is 6, 2 = 8.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Eryndir notices that something is inside the coffin in J3 and is moving around in there.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

Brianna advances to E6 to attack the sword, triggering Eryndir's readied action.

Trigger
Trigger's picture

Rapier attack, with Advantage.

I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 19, 5 = 24.
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 14, 5 = 19.
Trigger
Trigger's picture

Damage

I rolled 1d8+3, the result is 5, 3 = 8.
I rolled 1d6, the result is 2 = 2.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Interestingly, Rogues are somehow capable of sneak attacking swords. Perhaps Eryndir hit the blade in the pommel, or a particularly brutal strike to the hilt. We all know how debilitating it can be to get struck in the hilt.

Brianna follows up with an attack of her own, with advantage.

Attack, Adv, Damage
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 13, 5 = 18.
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 7, 5 = 12.
I rolled 1d10+4, the result is 1, 4 = 5.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Brianna's attack is assisted by Eryndir, and she draws sparks as her greatsword meets the flying scimitar.

Another sword (Blue 8) flies up and out into the hallway, menacing the party from D6. This, unfortunately, flanks Brianna!

Attack, Adv., Damage
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 2, 3 = 5.
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 11, 3 = 14.
I rolled 1d8+1, the result is 5, 1 = 6.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Prythurkan roars and cries out at Charn: "Brother! Flank with me!" He then raises his massive crown-head axe high in the air.

All of this is simply too much for the kobold Darusthanav, who moves to A9 and hides behind Caleb.

It is now Charn's turn.

Dafyd
Dafyd's picture

Charn replies, "On it!" He steps to D7 and attacks the sword at D6!

I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 6, 5 = 11.
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 10, 5 = 15.
I rolled 1d8+3, the result is 5, 3 = 8.
MinusInnocence
MinusInnocence's picture

If it helps, Charn (as well as Brianna and the other Dragonborn) are all blessed. So he can add 1d4 to both of his attacks.

"Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag and begin slitting throats." - H.L. Mencken

Cronono
Cronono's picture

It actually makes a difference here. In the name of expediency, I'll calculate Charn's bless results.

BLESS
I rolled 1d4, the result is 3 = 3.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

Charn manages to hit, as a result of the Bless.

Prythurkan's readied action goes off (technically before Charn's attack, but this is fine), so he gets a Blessed Advantage attack against the sword as well.

Attack, Adv, Bless Attack, Bless Advantage, Damage
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 4, 5 = 9.
I rolled 1d20+5, the result is 10, 5 = 15.
I rolled 1d4, the result is 3 = 3.
I rolled 1d4, the result is 3 = 3.
I rolled 1d12+3, the result is 12, 3 = 15.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

The reason everyone loves Bless is because Bless is directly responsible for both of those attacks hitting. The two dragonborn land a flurry of steel on the animated blade, which actually shatters. It is no more.

Enemy 0 does some stuff. In the darkness. Creepy.

Able's turn. The only visible enemy is the sword flanked by Brianna and Eryndir. Able could attack it or do something else, perhaps to dispel the darkness. Able is not aware of whatever non-sense is going on in J3.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

Any thoughts, Able? @deadDMwalking

deadDMwalking
deadDMwalking's picture

Able is not interested in the animated objects. Please drop him from initiative.

Cronono
Cronono's picture

Ok. They're actively trying to kill some of your companions. If you want to hop back into it later, let us know.

Cor'val's turn!

Trigger
Trigger's picture

Can we get a narrative of what Able is doing outside of initiative?

Obsidian_Spoon
Obsidian_Spoon's picture

I've lost track of what's where, but I think there's a sword somewhere flanked by Eryndir and Brianna, and it's the only one we can see. Cor'val will now fire at that sword (moving wherever he has to to do so), and this'll leave him at 15 arrows.

I rolled 1d20+7, the result is 4, 7 = 11.
I rolled 1d8+3, the result is 7, 3 = 10.
Cronono
Cronono's picture

I'll post an updated map this evening, but you've got advantage from flanking. Go ahead and give me another attack roll.
