THE FUTURE OF THIS SITE

Okay, folks. The Archive in its current version has had a good run. But it's not going to have much longer; it's running antiquated software and I'm reaching the limits of my ability to keep it afloat. That means we're updating our software. It probably means that I am going to be unable to preserve every jot and tittle of content that we have, if I'm left to my own devices.

Here's I what you need to do: If there is content that you need to have access to, make a backup copy of it. Cut and paste it from the site if you have to.

Character sheets from the PbP games? Back 'em up.
Gaming content on the non-forum parts of the site that you wrote and want to keep? Back it up.
Whole threads from the forum? Whatever. Back it up.

I don't know how much time you have to get this done, so I strongly urge you to do this at your earliest possible convenience.

Giving this a bump to raise visibility by putting it up into the "Active Topics" sidebar.

Thank you for the heads up. Will try to copy everything over today.

Are there any plug-ins for easy downloading of content?

No. And even if there were, the admin section of the site is currently so badly bugged that it really wouldn't matter. Yesterday morning, the entire site was inoperable because of the hosting provider's forced update from MySQL 5 to MySQL 8. This site is reliant upon some SQL commands that are no longer part of the new environment.

I was able to cludge something together to get this site "working" again, but I really am not exaggerating when I say that there are no more rabbits in my hat; the fact that the user-facing sections are functional is honestly just luck. This is well beyond my ability to fix.

We've been saving non-forum content as a backup to manually paste into whatever new environment we eventually land on, so there's no great need for anybody to worry about saving that NPC or feat your submitted. But the forum content is basically not able to be saved except by directly copy/pasting each post, which just isn't going to happen. So it's being left as an individual responsibility that if there's stuff in a forum post you want somewhere, please go and grab it.

Can I get a SQL dump of the forum? I still have the code from previous forums and have been able to put it in some readable formats. Usually, the posts are stored as whole entries on tables, so it's easy to keep together.

Just because things may implode at any moment, we've set up a channel for the archive. Anyone can join the server in the Dnd archive channel, here: https://discord.gg/MuD75BqNrb

It's hosted on an old D&D buddies server, so we use it to arrange our games and some might be doing PbP games there.
