Hand-to-Hand Combat Arena (IC)

Down in the mostly empty Hangar Bays, a sealed off arena has been prepared for martial combat. It is kept large enough to hold two Astartes at any time but can be made larger or smaller upon request. The area is kept dark, with the only illuminators focusing on the arena itself. The ground inside the fighting area is only slightly softer and more giving than the hard adamantine and plasteel hull of the Doomsayer. A ring has been drawn into the ground in an octagonal shape, but there are no walls or fences. Honor and pride will keep the combatants in.

Incense burns from the walls and a small medicae facility has been set up on one of the far walls.

After attending to their own personal matters and observing the proper rights as they ritually removed their armor, the combatants start to make their way to the Combat Arena.

Yngvar makes his way to the combat arena after not finding anything of great import during his wanderings. He leans against the hangar wall and waits for Gunter to arrive.

Gunter's wanderings were more fruitful but also frustrating. He arrives after the Space Wolf and squares off on the opposite side of the arena. "I see you've made yourself comfortable. There is such a thing as too relaxed. If we're going to serve on a team together, It seems I must teach you about discipline and working as a team. I'm not much of a teacher, so I'll just have to beat these lessons into your thick skull".

[OOC: Please post OOC in brackets like this at the bottom of your IC post. I will roll Initiative for you both to speed up this process; I will allow another IC response from Yngvar and then we can start roleplaying and calling melee combat actions]

EDIT: Normally the tie would be broken by whomever has the higher AG bonus, then the higher AG score, but since it is both the exact fucking same, I am going to roll again... unless one of your characters wants to be ultra macho and let the other attack first.

Yngvar and Gunter Respectively
I rolled 1d10+3, the result is 9, 3 = 12.

Gunter invites Yngvar to give him his best shot.

[OOC - Gunter will use his reaction to block Dodge 39. Whether he is successful or not, he'll slide behind Yngvar and slam a knee into his back. I THINK the damage is 1d10+5 without Power Armor, but I'll stand for correction

Edit - I think Gunter successfully dodges the incoming attack, but fails to Strike Yvngar]

[OOC: let me clarify two things. One, in this thread I will roll everything necessary - so just give me actions and reactions. Two, technically you are not performing a Dodge, but a Parry. Dodging is vs. ranged attacks; parrying is vs. melee attacks and is usually only applicable if you have a melee weapon equipped, but these are special circumstances; Yngvar, you are up - action and tentative reaction please.]

Round 1

Yngvar wastes no time in responding to the challenge. Without a word he launches himself forward, taking three bounding steps before smashing into Gunter. The Black Templar is caught completely off guard, and Yngvar slams him backward a step, tightening his massive paws around the Templars wrists and forearms and gaining complete control over his upper body in a vicious grapple.

Yngvar grits his teeth and and thrashes against Gunter, pushing his weight down on Gunter's arms in one direction and then shifting his feet and lunging towards the Black Templar with an elbow he never saw coming. Gunter tries to resist the burly Space Wolf, but cannot overcome his strength. Yngvar's elbow smacks Gunter in the mouth with a resounding smack, the force of which snaps Gunter's head back, but leaves no permanent damage.

Gunter ignores the blow from the Space Wolf. Pain is an illusion sent by the enemies of the Empire to distract from our duty. The pride of the Chapter is on the line. The Space Wolf chapter is one of storied success and well-deserved accolades, but the fact that they crow about their successes instead of leading by humble example is anathema to this Black Templar. Gunter places his his weight on the ball of his foot, pivots and attempts lifts the Space Wolf over his thigh. It seems like it will work, but the Son of Fenris realizes what is happening at the last moment and stubbornly resists with all his might, denying the Templar his throw.

***

Yngvar 12; Grappling with Gunter: Successfully controlling the grapple.
Gunter 12; Grappling with Yngvar; has taken 3 damage; 2/3 FP.

To speed things up, I am ruling that a PC who successfully enters or gains control of a grapple may make an action in the same turn. This way we prevent the grapple from switching hands every turn without any actions other than that actually occurring.

It is currently Yngvar's turn

GM Edit:Xerb, I edited this and updated Round 1 with the relevant info.

Yngvar's response to Gunter electing to receive the first blow is heavily skeptical. He trusts this black templar very little in combat, not knowing what he may have up that robed sleeve. He further suspects that the longer this contest goes on, the more he himself will loose any advantage. He conducts his attack accordingly.

[Action: Charge w/ Grapple; WS40 + 10(Charge) =50. If successful Yngvar will attempt to Damage Gunter (Opposed Strength Test) w/ S40. ; Reaction: Parry.]

Round 2

Yngvar, having shown himself to be the superior wrestler for the time being, releases his grip on Gunter suddenly. He snaps his left fist forward, jabbing quickly above Gunter's right shoulder forcing Gunter to move to Yngvar's right - exactly where he wanted him. Yngvar throws a brutal low right hook that smashes into Gunter's midsection. Gunter grimaces barely at a blow that would have crushed a normal human.

Gunter grimaces again with the blow from the Space Wolf. Physically, perhaps, Gunter may not be a match. If he is going to attain victory, he'll have to out-think his enemy. Now free of the grapple, Gunter slams a fist toward Yvgnar's head. The blow catches Yngvar squarely on the chin. The blow whips Yngvar's head back and he momentarily tastes blood.

Round 3

Yngvar is slightly amazed to have been hit so precisely and painfully by this Black Templar who he considered to be barely more than an academic. Not be outdone and perhaps letting his impulse to retaliate and add his own note to the chin music, more than to make a tactically sound maneuver, Yngvar reaches for Gunter's shoulder and head , gripping both tightly in his iron grasp and thrusting his knee into Gunter's midsection. However much to the chagrin of the young Wolf, Gunter brings down both of his forearms, crashing into Yngvar's knee and taking almost all of the energy out of the attack.

Gunter's grimace twists into a wan smile; even if the Space Wolf wins, he'll be wary of the Black Templars in the future. And if he should prevail, the lesson will take even better! He pushes out of Yngvar's grasp and throws a straight right. Either because of a telling draw or the Wolf's innate combat senses, Yngvar sees it coming and easily side steps it.

Round 4

Yngvar bares his teeth showing the blood he earned earlier from Gunters's solid strike. His sharp canines, growing since the implantation of his Gene seed are bared tightly in a grotesque half smile/half snarl. He throws a left jab intended for Gunter's nose and a right uppercut to finish the job. Gunter senses the jab coming and bobs his head to the left, and then quickly jerks his head back, leaving Yngvar's uppercut to hit nothing but air.

Gunter attempts a feint tactic - the same tactic that worked so well for Yngvar previously. But his attempt it painfully obvious. So much so, it causes Yngvar to laugh openly as he side steps, ready for the inevitable follow up hit. As if on cue, Gunter launches his attack. He leans down low and spins, bringing his foot around in a spinning kick that Yngvar cannot get out of the way of. Gunter's foot slams into the side of Yngvar's face, knocking the young Space Wolf onto his back. While he is not unconcious, he is dazed, and shakes his head momentarily to get the buzzing out. He gets up quickly, his teeth bared more savagely. The half smile is gone and grim determination laces his features.

Round 5

Yngvar launches two more quick shots at Gunter, both of which normally would have connected, but in his dazed state neither are able to. Gunter backs away to ascertain what he should do next.

Gunter attempts another feint, but Yngvar's combat senses are too attuned in melee to fall for it. He avoids the feint easily and prepares for the follow up attack. Gunter throws an elbow hard at Yngvar's face; the Space Wolf puts up both forearms to protect his face and while they absorb most of the vicious blow, the force still rocks his face. He shakes his head and takes a shaky step back, assessing his situation.

Gunter moves to strike again and Yngvar sees his opening; he lashes out with his palm, catching the Templar in the throat and momentarily throwing off his guard. The moment is all Yngvar needs. Beaten down but far from dead, the young Space Wolf throws a vicious spinning elbow into Gunter's chin. Thrown out of sync by the throat shot, Gunter can only watch as Yngvar's right elbow crashes into his face. His head rocks back from the unexpected fury but he keeps his grounding, gritting his teeth and remaining on his feet.

Gunter wastes no time in retaliating. He leans back and looks to end this with a left high kick to Yngvar's head. Yngvar moves to get out of the way and is utterly surprised when Gunter shifts his weight, feinting with the left kick, using its momentum to spin him around and hammering home his right fist into Yngvar's temple. With no way to avoid the punch, the Wolf grits his teeth and takes the full force of the blow, knocking him down onto the hard ground. He runs his tongue over his teeth and tastes blood, spitting some on the floor as he regains his bearings.

Combat is over. Congratulations, DDMW. Gunter is victorious +20xp

Gunter counts his victory more as a gift from the Emperor than due to any skill of his own. Were he to fight the Space Wolf again, he has no doubt that he would be the one defeated. But trading blows is the best way to take a measure of another marine. Not only to judge their skill at arms, but also their willingness to do what it takes to achieve victory. This 'Daughter of Death' was described as true Astartes - possessing the gene-seed and specialized training that separates the loyalist legions from 'mere' humans. Gunter would find out.

He stretched and worked out the tightness in his muscles from his exertions against the Space Wolf just hours ago. The contusions from the bone-crunching blows from before had already healed almost fully - appearing as shadowy phantoms on Gunter's otherwise pale skin. He stripped to the waist as Aisha prepared herself across the circle. "I will pull no punches."

Round 1

Aisha receives a challenge from Gunter as the Doomsayer travels through the Warp on its way to their target. Wasting no time, she dons her robes and makes her way to the Combat dojo. Any challenge to fight was a challenge that would not go unanswered. Besides, what better way was there to get to know her new Battle Brothers before their coming missions?

She quickly learns much about Gunter, as the Templar, bare from the waist up launches himself at her just as she enters the ring and makes eye contact with him. Charging at Aisha, he delivers a vicious upper-cut - one that would decapitate a normal human. Aisha is caught off guard, moving to parry but acting a millisecond too late. The blow would have popped her in the jaw, but hits her in the sternum instead and doesn't do nearly as much damage as Gunter would have hoped.

Aisha reels from the punch and goes to throw an enormous right; however, her footing is off and she misses by a mile. Gunter barely needs to move out of the way, watching as Aisha's powerful swing easily misses his head.

Round 2

Gunter can't help but smirk as Aisha's attack flies wide. An Apothecary will be useful, but perhaps she lacks the killer instinct of the Emperor's chosen warriors. If there is a spark of it inside her, Gunter knows how to awaken it. He goes to deliver an open-handed slap - something of an insult if interpreted as so in a duel between warriors.

Aisha doesn't move to deflect the blow at all, instead she embraces it and slams her forehead into it, leaving Gunter's palm stinging and doing no damage to herself.

Aisha leaps forward, recoiling from the momentum of her headbutt and launching a knee at Gunter's sternum. The dark-haired warrio moves quickly to the side and the knee brushes harmlessly past. Perhaps most terrifying to an onlooker is how quickly and powerfully these blows are delivered - near too fast for the human eye to catch.

Round 3

After laying an open handed slap across Aisha's forehead, stinging her pride more than her flesh, Gunter expected Aisha to give a crushing counter attack - and he had left himself open for it. But instead she tried to use her knee as clumsily as any 1st-year Neophyte. Two possibilities immediately cross Gunter's suspicious mind - perhaps Aisha isn't a full Space Marine despite Angellion's declaration to the contrary - or perhaps she is trying to lure him into a false sense of security and is planning a devastating counterattack as she learns his style - it seems probable that she has never fought a Black Templar before.

Gunter raises a forearm defensively and makes a guarded strike for her solar plexus, but the attack goes wide as Aisha deftly side steps the blow much as Gunter previously did. Perhaps in his shock at falling for the same defensive tactic he just employed, Gunter leaves himself open for a split-second. It is all Aisha needed. In that moment she stills herself, knowing that in her haste to prove herself, the Emperor has found her wanting. In this moment Gunter's woeful attempt misses her and she retaliates quickly. Grabbing hold of Gunter's forearm, she pulls it over her head while ducking under it and delivers two quick uppercuts to the Templars jaw - each hit delivering a bright white light into his eyes as his senses regained from blows that would have put a mortal human in a coma and turned their jaw into shards of broken bone.

Aisha lets go of his arm and regains her fighting stance.

Round 4

Gunter grimaces as Aisha connects with his head. He turns sideways and spits blood. With that blow she's proven that she can hit like a Space Marine. This fight isn't over yet. After absorbing the bone crushing blow he strikes toward her again with another devestating fist, but never intended to land the blow - he follows up with a viscious front kick.

Aisha deftly maneuvers past the all too obvious feint and slides around the follow up front kick that could have brought down a small tree.

They turn to face one another, sizing each other up. Aisha doesn't feint or perform some articulate maneuvre from her hours of hand-to-hand combat theory and codex studying. She simply throws a punch like a rocket breaking through orbit. Gunter moves to block the blow, but Aisha's fist slams inside of his guard and connects solidly with his jaw. As he grimaces under the blow, she throws a follow up hook to his mid section and finishes him with a knee to his dazed head.

Covered in sweat and mildly injured, the secretive Daughter of Death puts the hood of her robe back over her shaven head and regards her fallen Battle Brother on the ground.

Combat is Over! Congratulations Crimison! Aisha earns +20xp!

After the successful mission on Alpha Ichi, Gunter seeks out Pax. "I don't have any secrets, brother. It is in the dark that heresy grows. You are...odd, Pax," Gunter uses the familiar. "You have no problem being open with marines of other chapters. It is not so easy for me. Let's spar - and I'll answer any questions you have".
