An Oddity

So here's a thing. I logged on this morning as per usual and everything was normal. But when I visit the forum main page, "Hello, Fixxxer" becomes "Hello, deaddmwalking" and I'm told there's a message in my inbox. when I navigate to any other page, the message notification goes away and my name returns to what it should be.

I think I noticed something similar when using the '@' function. I believe that it gave me a message about me being Talanall. Let me try it.

Did it wrong (used [] instead of () )

Maybe that wasn't it - but I remember being greeted as Talanall relatively recently - it sounds like a similar issue to what you're seeing.

I also have had this experience once or twice, where the site thinks I am someone else for a second. Refreshing the page or going to a different page and coming back seems to fix it, so I am operating on the assumption that it is some kind of exotic bug in the part of the site that handles caching.

Normally, the site generates each page it shows you by querying a database, and then filling in the page's templates with the data from that query. It's a little hard on a shared server when things are busy, so we use caching to pre-generate an HTML page that is then held in readiness to serve to users.

I speculate that we are occasionally served each other's pre-generated HTML. This would explain why, when you refresh a page or leave and come back, it suddenly knows who you are.

If it were a more persistent kind of bug, we'd see multiple pages' worth of browsing under the mistaken identity.

At least for me, it happens most often on the site's front page, and on the forum front page.

Something similar happened to me once or twice. So long as attempting to post or reply to a message as the other person always fails, this is a goofy bug but not really problematic, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, we previously had a bug that caused people to read the wrong private messages. I switched to a different module to fix it, because that was a show-stopper.

Just to be on the safe side, everyone should be sure to send Jeff all your dick pics so we know they're all in the same place.

What do you know????!!!!

I would assume that *all* dicks are in the same place... namely in the groin region. But then again, Newby has seen many, many, MANY more of them than I have (and I was a marine!).

Noticed something weird when posting in 2EEE IC thread. It took quite a bit longer to post - then I scrolled up to the top of the page and it said:

·Unable to send e-mail. Contact the site administrator if the problem persists.
·Unable to send e-mail. Contact the site administrator if the problem persists.
·Unable to send e-mail. Contact the site administrator if the problem persists.

Below that, it said:

Your comment has been posted.

I don't think I did anything that should have made it try to send an e-mail. Thought I'd mention it in case it means everything is about to fall apart.

The subscription e-mails that go out when you post to the thread misfired for some reason. I didn't receive an e-mail notice of Argus's most recent action in the IC thread. If I had to guess, two other people out of Cronono, Darker, MinusInnocence also failed to receive e-mail.

The notice you got at the top of that section was the site telling you that the e-mail service just shat itself three times.

The only weird thing that happened to me today as far as I could tell was that one of the times Darker tagged me in a post, the notification e-mail addressed me AS Darker.
