Let's get initiative going, folks.
Wæs se grimma gæst Grendel haten,mære mearcstapa, se þe moras heold
Go like Sonic.
I shall inspire you by charging blindly on! (Init).
Henrik responds, "Two questions. How many and how hungry are the kobolds?" He adds, "I couldn't possibly eat another bite," after putting one final dried apricot in his mouth as juice and saliva pour down his chin.
I realize that the apricot is dried and therefore it does not have it's own juice. That makes it 100% drool (but probably fruit flavored). And it appears an IC comment really helps on initiative rolls.
Vandersrike, who has been storing his rations carefully, simply nods at Henrik.
Fast as the high school quarterback after the prom.
There needs to be a plus 1 to that.
Looks like Henrik and Vexandi get to act first.
As of this moment, you're all seated (effectively prone). See the IC thread for the map; there are visibility issues to contend with because it's night, and you are in a cave.
On Vex's turn, he's going to stand up and cast Dancing Lights, aimed 70ft directly south(?) of him towards the cave entrance, in that hallway area leading out of room 7.
It took me freakin' forever to notice the pink ring; I'm color blind...
Sorry, man. I'm struggling to find contrasting color pairs that don't also screw with your vision. It's a process, I guess. Red/green is obviously bad. Red/blue is better, but clearly not ideal.
Would use yellow/blue, but honestly I don't think it'll give good contrast (and it probably will come out green).
Can you discern purple?
Haha, it's ok. Once I read the map description and know it's there to look for, I can find it. Once I find it, I'm good.
You don't have to keep making adjustments for me.
Shades of blue work great. Oranges are good. I can see purple if it's not close in color to a blue; otherwise I just assume it IS blue.
Okay, I think I can make orange happen.
Can you differentiate all of these from each other? And do any of them look similar enough to one another that it would be inconvenient if I used them?
Also, let's hear from DDMW before I update. If I get his action, I can push all the way through the critters' turn.
As long as colors 1 and 4 aren't side by side, I'm fine with the above.
Waiting on @deadDMwalking. You still with us, man?
Been crazy busy. Sorry. I have a friend that decided to move and move fast, so I've spent the last two full days helping him move everything into storage/friend's house so he can take a job in Kentucky.
Being prone sucks. Henrik will stand up and cast light on his waraxe. "I cannot abide a creature that does not understand it's place in the food web!"
Hob #4, AoO.
Fort vs. Poison.
5'step and flurry centipede 5
And my string of bad attack rolls continues.....
I'm fairly certain that you have mistaken Hob #5 for a centipede. And Evrinel is prone. You probably wanna do something different anyway.
Errr wow. Just as well, really, those rolls deserve to be scrapped. I really shouldn't try to read the map while still pondering the puzzle in the other window. Ummm. So stand, draw sling while standing, just in case I need it for something. And move to 1 square s of 8.
I feel like this encounter might be retribution for linking to that cave centipede video. But misery loves company. I hope this is cathartic for everyone.
This is a random encounter. I'd claim to have included it on the table as retribution, but the truth is that I compiled the table months before you shared that little slice of hell with the rest of us.
@Dafyd is up. Let's get his action, and then I'll push through the hobs' initiative.
Risking getting bitten, Leland stands up and draws his club and shield. "In the future," he mutters, "we should consider building a palisade whenever we make camp."
AoOs vs. Hob #4
Johten will get to his feet and make ready while he moves to cover the potential gap between Hobs 7 and 3.
What are Rasnak and Vandersrike doing?
Besides hungrily licking the tip of their beaks?
Vandersrike gets up and moves due east to look and see if the group is going to be flanked by burrowing centipedes. He can't sneak attack a swarm and this makes him slightly pouty.
Fortunately, these aren't swarming. There are only about a dozen of them, although "only" may be a little bit of a stretch when the smallest is the size of a housecat, and the largest is roughly on par with a Great Dane.
As we all recall from another horror filled campaign, a housecat sized centipede is appalling.
This is doubly true when your character's race is described as being Tiny when advantageous.
Ah, well. At least the kobolds are getting a good meal out of it. And Henrik, too, evidently. I think DDMW recently telegraphed some willingness on his part to collapse "enemy" and "food item" into a single category.
He's enlightened, that one.
Also, the more centipedes the Kobolds get, the more peaches for those who are less inclined to suck out the innards of a succulent segmented leg.
I would imagine Vex has no qualms about eating insects, either.
Henrik has no qualms about encouraging others to eat the flesh of the fallen and leaving better food for himself. And if kobolds can live on it, he'd probably be willing to eat a creepy crawly rather than risk starvation. Let's say he's 2 days without food from eating bugs, 5 days from eating sentient creatures, and 10 days from eating another dwarf. He's got his boundaries, but he knows that they're not permanent and unchanging.
Yay! There will be crunchies to eat tonight!
Rasnak figures Vandersrike has the right idea and follows the other kobold to head of any flanking that their dinner may try.
Vex wants to delay until after the cinterpedes.
I can only look at the map on my phone and I can't quite make out if I can charge 9 or not. I'm going to assume I can and go for it. If I fall short, that's cool, too.
Henrik rushes forward, lighted axe held aloft. "You're hungry? Eat this!"
The white markers are hobs, man. Pretty sure you don't want to take an axe to them.
You're right. I was just looking at the map again and realized... Let's call it a double move to as close to Mbali as I can get.
Centipede 5 vs. Xolani
Fort vs. poison
