Halfling Fighter

The halfling fighter below is almost a clone of the elf fighter I offered earlier, in most important respects. The important difference is that this fighter is small sized, which did a lot to improve the NPC's stealth abilities, and in the quality of this NPC's saves. Unlike the elf, this fighter concentrates on the composite longbow to the exclusion of all else until it has acquired all of the archery feats. It isn't quite so tough mentally (the elf's +2 racial bonus to resist enchantment spells and effects is very nice), but it has a heftier hit point total. 

This NPC also lacks low-light vision, which makes it far less suitable to nighttime operation than the elf. Overall, the same general tactics work with this NPC as worked with the elf. At lower levels, this NPC suffers from a low Str score (a racial weakness of halfling fighters), so you should try to attack in terrain that inhibits the PCs' ability to close for melee if you wish to make the most of this archer.
