"Ok, Lady Alannah, I'm coming down...but they may have something else up their ...sleeves." Kya responds.

Since everyone else is getting on their horses and the visible naga is slithering away, Kya will descend the tree and grab her backpack from Garren assuming the invisible naga doesn't act before she gets the chance.

I'm guessing everyone is going to use their turn to keep trying to leave so Kya won't prolong their stay.

I'm splitting Kya's action, since she's speaking out of turn but can't really act until her turn comes up.

Is the encounter officially over when we are off the campsite, or are they just waiting for us to get in a better fireball formation...

Talanall

In this specific case, I am keeping us in initiative until I am sure Avar is finished being a hero.

You can be sure of that. Well, at least for this encounter anyway.

Garren keeps moving away.

Talanall

By "away," what direction do you mean? Away from the nagas (NW), or away from the standing stones (WNW), or what? The trail you were following was leading SSW, roughly. If you want that direction, you'd still be moving away from both nagas and stones, just not by the most direct path available. But you would not also be moving yourself farther away from the trail.

If Garren isn't thinking about details like getting back to tracking the halflings in the morning, and is focused exclusively on ending this confrontation as quickly as he can, that's perfectly fine. I just don't want to assume.

SSW makes the most sense for the party to head, at least while clearing the nagas, not that I remember what their plan was exactly :)

Talanall

The party was trying to track down a group of halfling nomads that they believe to be in possession of either a McGuffin, or the whereabouts of a person who has the McGuffin.

I'm interested in moving with the group as closely as possible. We can deal with the tracking with something like a Circle Dance if Alannah is up to it, I think, so I'm not too worried about losing the trail. Garren is definitely interested in making it clear that we're not trying to provoke a response.

Okay. So is he going to sit still until the rest of the Bastards are ready to move? At the moment, Oskav and Alannah are needing to saddle up, Avar is going to have to either ride behind someone else or walk, and Chuul will have to walk (faster than most everyone else) until he shrinks to a size that won't kill his horse.

I think it's safe to say that as long as oskav's horse gets saddled and Avar stays away from Alannah, you can do whatever you need to get the party out of this encounter as a group and far enough away that they can be safe to kill one another or encounter a non naga in relative privacy :)

I concur. Alannah plans on saddling up and heading out with the others.

Playing your characters for you is kind of counterproductive to the whole object of this game.

I mean, if I was going to do that, I probably should have just said that Avar wasn't going to antagonize the snakeybois in the first place.

Wasn't meant like that, just based on what was posted earlier, seems safe to say that Garren wishes to remain with the group even if he were riding off, would prob just stop and wait once he realized people were saddling up. All I meant was DDMW likely wouldnt flip out if you made that assumption in an effort to keep the ball rolling. I think going crazy without work I was just realizing how slow PbP could be while waiting nearly a week to get one character's action to ride a horse in order & out of the way.

Talanall

I think we'll speed up again, after we get settled with our new circumstances. PbP is always going to be kind of slow, but it's been especially slow since Thanksgiving 2019, largely because of personal issues impacting upon my level of preparedness to serve as DM. This campaign has historically been pretty vigorous, and I think that you'll probably feel better about pacing once I finally hit my stride again.

Avar will walk to keep up with the party.

Garren's priority is to stay with his companions. He'll saddle up Celene, too, if that's what the delay is.

Are elves immune to paralysis? Asking for a friend...

Talanall
Talanall's picture

No. They're immune specifically to the ghoul's extraordinary ability that causes paralysis. This is a very old exemption, running all the way back to Gary Gygax's Chainmail wargaming rules, when elves were immune as a very crude balancing measure because they were expensive and certain undead units with the paralysis ability were cheap. It's a very common mistake for people to generalize it to include all causes of paralysis.
