A tornado struck Ruston last night at about 2:15. Laura and I are fine, as is our house and that of my in-laws. But the tornado went through town, including part of Louisiana Tech's campus and a chunk of the city's residential and business areas. As you may expect, there are widespread outages, as well as a lot of debris. We have avoided leaving the house so that we remain out of the way of response efforts.
I don't know how long the outage will last, so please consider me unavailable for the immediate future.

I expect to be back to normal tomorrow sometime. Maybe sooner, if I'm fortunate and my section of the electrical grid is repaired quickly.
It took a bit longer than I expected, but I'm back. Ruston's in pretty terrible shape; the tornado touched down about 400 yards from my house and plowed its way across town. Fortunately for me, it traveled away from us.
Glad you're okay. Hope Ruston is able to recover quickly.
I hope so, too. It came pretty close to cutting the town in half. In light of where the tornado passed and how extensive the damage to property appears to have been, I'm surprised there were only two fatalities (and no serious injuries). It could have been much worse.
I expect to be unavailable starting on the afternoon of Friday, 10 May 2019 and extending until midday on Wednesday, 15 May 2019. I'm obliged to travel for a family affair that will leave me with little to no availability to participate in or run games here.
I will be in Arizona from 6/14 through 6/24. I will be in Los Angeles from 6/24 through 6/28. I will be home and on 'normal schedule' on 6/29. I expect to have internet access throughout the trip, but I will not have control of my schedule. If I'm holding up any games during that period, please feel free to NPC me. Suggestions for my character(s) below:
Gravington: Try not to get hurt. Try to learn what motivates his companions. Look for rich weak-minded fools to begin influencing.
Argus: Shoot it with as many arrows as possible!
Garren: Grimly look for a chance to end Berger Cole.
Ditto for me June 24th to 30th, except I'll be in New Orleans. I should have a chance to post at least once a day, but if I don't then I don't.
We live outside New Orleans itself, several miles from the worst of the flooding they're showing on TV. We aren't leaving, obviously, and I don't anticipate we will get any water near our front door or even lose power for an extended period of time. But you never know! So my availability may be limited or spotty this weekend.

I was just in New Orleans! Why didn't you tell me you were there!
I guess I assumed everyone knew by now. I've lived here for four years.
Must be because you don't type like a Cajun.
I'm Pahton's Duck.
I will be traveling from 7/13 to 7/23. We're driving up to Cape Code through DC and Philadelphia, attending a wedding, then driving back stopping only in podunk towns as we try to get home.
I suppose it's worth mentioning that I'll be moving to Portland, OR, ideally in the next 7-10 days. It has been my experience more often than not that when you try to turn internet service on at a new address, there's usually some kind of SNAFU that holds up the works. So if it seems like I disappear for a couple of days, I've just moved is all.
I suppose I still exist, as it turns out.
Glad you're back.
Are you back?
I'll be out from now until sometime on this coming Sunday, July 21st.
Comcast is sending a tech next Wednesday to install internet. My attendance will likely be a little spotty until then. Please don't let me hold up anything important.
I have returned.
Aaaaaand, we're back!
Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I've stopped by here but Fixxxer roped me back in. Glad to see a lot of familiar faces still hanging around here.
Holy shit! Welcome back, my dude!
Indeed, welcome. Looking forward to getting completely raped in Arkham with you.
It feels like a mission from god. I'm glad to see the band getting back together.
Not making any promises, but I'm not against trying to stay in better touch at least.
I'm leaving today for Iowa, coming back on Friday. I don't expect to miss out on things, but if it seems that my contribution would be helpful and is not forthcoming, feel free to NPC me as necessary.
I'll be traveling from Thursday, September 5th through Sunday, September 8th. I don't expect to be active on the forums during that time.
It's still a little ways out, but just so that there's time to make any preparations that might be needful, I'll be on vacation in Europe, Canada and Florida from October 1 through October 17. I should still be able to access the site and the PbP games, but my active times might be wildly different than normal and I've never been able to make the die roller work from my phone, so yeah.
Europe? Badass! What parts?
London, mostly. And the English countryside to the direct north. If we have the time, we might make the drive to France as well.
What part of Florida are you going to be in?
Also, as an aside from me. My Mother is dying. They started her up with hospice this week. I'll be travelling the weekend of Oct 4th - 6th to go see her again. I don't know how much time I'll have while I'm there although I'm sure I'll be able to get on once or twice.
I'm so sorry to hear that your mother is in hospice care. My mother and father have both dealt with/are dealing with cancer recently and we're at the point where we just don't know whether this is their last year or if they'll surprise us and still be around for two more decades. You reach a certain age and anything can become a serious life-or-death situation. I don't think it's possible to ever be truly ready when you find out that this really is the end for a parent. There's no wrong way to handle things and I hope you have the support you need so you can be there for her. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know.
On a lighter note, @Fixxxer, you'd think traveling to London would be easier than going to any other country because they speak English there. You'd be wrong. Or maybe it's fair to say that we don't speak English because we are definitely not speaking the same language. Let me just say that if someone offers you 'English Spotted Dick', it may be just as bad as it sounds, but not at all in the way that it sounds like it should be.
We've been dealing with it for about 2 1/2 years now. She has Glioblastoma, which generally only has a life expectancy of a year and a half from onset. So we feel pretty lucky that we've had her this long. We've been through brain surgery, two rounds of radiation, and a ton of chemo. It's just not working any more. But even with expecting it, it doesn't make it easier. And it's difficult, because I do feel pretty isolated right now. I work from home, we still know very few people where I live, and I'm a long way away from where she is. It's hard.
As for your comments about English in London, I've experienced that a few times as well. I was on a business trip there a few years ago and our office had decided to have a fitness contest as we were all in some bad health after a few years of serious stress, way too long hours, and eating too much junk food. Whoever managed to accomplish the biggest thing (Highest weight loss, some massive race, etc...) won a free trip to anywhere in the world.
Lisa was so excited because she'd just won the contest and was telling everyone at the conference about how she'd been voted the most fit person in the office and won an award for it. She is a fairly conservative person, and she was really embarrassed when she discovered what it meant to be "fit" in the UK. lol
I'm sorry to hear that, Aladdar.
We're going to London to attend a wedding, but after we made our initial plans and bought plane tickets, another friend set his wedding date elsewhere only a few days apart. Since we were gonna have to travel anyway, we decided hey, fuck it, add another leg just for pleasure. As a result, we're flying from Seattle to London for 9 days, then back to Seattle, staying overnight, then flying to Halifax, Nova Scotia for 3 days, then flying to Orlando to attend EPCOT's International Food & Wine Expo for 2 days, then flying back to Seattle. We'll drive home to Portland and get 1 day to relax before having to go back to work.
I am exhausted just reading that itinerary...
Alasdair, sorry to hear of your mother's failing health. I know how it is to feel isolated and very far from friends & family, especially when you need to be with them most. It's not easy. Hoping the final days you have with your mother are peaceful.
My condolences for your loss, Aladdar. It doesn't ever hurt less, but you do get more used to it.
I'll be heading out of town tomorrow morning and won't be back until late Sunday evening. I am deliberately not going to even check my email or read the news while I'm gone, so I won't be available at all until we get back.
Hey, all. Long time. I just wanted to give everyone a tentative heads up that my first semester teaching is almost over; we are at the halfway point now. As next semester I am not teaching any new preps, I would like to get back in a game or so here, if the DMs will have me.
