How do you feel about 5e?

Talanall

It looks like a coin flip between giving the last spot to Cronono or Darker.

1 = Cronono
2 = Darker

I rolled 1d2, the result is 2 = 2.

I know basically nothing about it, so I don't know how I feel about it. Any resources that I might check out and see what I think about it?

I am pleased with how this all turned out.

Muy interesante. I'll PM after I peruse these.

One thing - the author of the article says multiclassing is bad. He is demonstrably wrong. Some of the strongest performing classes dip - Fighter 2 is extremely common, Rogue 2 is extremely common, and there are amazing Paladin/Warlock builds that also dip into a third class.

Let me know if you see anything that interests you.

Well, I'll take advantage of that stroke.

I'm thinking either a martially incline hobgoblin with some combo of fighter/barbarian/evil paladin/ranger levels. I'm really going to miss the first concept that was going to use an orcish double axe, but this will be cool too. OR an air goblin archer that might have levels in rogue, ranger or even savage bard.

If you decide on an air goblin would you consider buddying up? I am planning on wilderness rogue/soulknife so I am sure we can come up with something.

@Board RiderThis is cool with me. Took me a while to nail down my concept so I didn't want to agree prematurely. I'm going to be a wolf rider ranger. I plan on playing him as intelligent, duty-bound, and driven by ambition of rising in the ranks -- which may be a bit unusual for a goblin. He'll be a bit of a racial jingoist and have a fierce dislike for goblinoids who betray other goblins or are disloyal to their own kind.

I decided on an air goblin and I would love to buddy up.

So...three air goblins.

My submitted PC is a rogue/druid who I envisioned as kind of a loner, scout type. However, given that there may be three of us getting a band together, lets duscuss concepts.

Originally, I was going rogue/soulknife or rogue/ranger with more of a combat focus. Given what you all are thinking I am happy going that route as well.

Thoughts?

Gorx is going to be a pure shaman. He's very, very hateful. He wants to burn down everything that has been used to hurt the Goblinoid peoples. Scorched earth.

Gorx prefers to take a measured, practical approach to problems. He never really seems to be at peace but is closest to it when in quiet and relative isolation. He is fine in a crowd or in a fracas as long as he is in the eye of the storm. He also loves music, but is absolutely terrible at coming up with original compositions.

Okay so a ladder climber and a goblin whose desire to literally burn those who hurt goblins and Goblinoids. I can be the goblin who inflicts pain to help one progress and the other to oppress. Disco.

So are we related, did we form a bond over our unique nature from other, typical, goblins, or are we a crack team of silent goblin commandos? While I know Tal hasn't provided background yet maybe our ideas can help him and others?

Darker

Why not literal brothers?

Sounds good to me!

Done. Last name idea anyone?

Tal, you should have my reworked PC tonight.

Darker

Do goblins have last names? Maybe they use a clan name? Or a parent name? And anyone else going to ride on a wolf?

Sorry for chiming in so late. I know we have at least one other bugbear and the intention for that character is to advance as a Barbarian, Fighter or some combination of the two. I had the same idea and may still do so, or may do something totally different in terms of class levels; but I definitely want to start as a bugbear. I don't really have any interest in being related to the rest of you noobs.

Are there no hobos?

MinusInnocence

We're probably all playing hobos. If we had real jobs adventuring would be a bad idea.

So funny story... in the last game, everytime I typed hobgoblin I had to correct it from hobogolbins or hobos instead of hobs. I just kept typing it. So, that was an inside joke because of that. Unfortunately, I'm the only one that knows that story, so it was an inside joke with just myself. This is sad.

I'm working on a post to follow Sergeant Timko's lecture. It'll provide MUCH more detail about goblin families, but the short answers are that within their own tribe they use their personal names in combination with a matronymic. When introducing themselves to people outside of their tribes, they do the same, but also usually include the tribe's name as a kind of additional surname.

They organize into clans above the tribe level, but seldom have occasion to talk about that stuff to strangers. If someone managed to unify more than one clan under a single rule, it'd be a kingdom.

I haven't been in a position to work up a stat block yet (day after tomorrow, if creation guidelines have been posted), but Talanall and I have discussed my concept. Not finna be directly related to any o'you hobogoblins.

There's a subforum now for Immigrant Song. Relevant material is there. I'm working as quickly as I can to bulk it out with some further information regarding goblin/bugbear/hobgoblin social structures, psychology, etc., but I'm travelling at the moment and it's been somewhat disruptive.

Just a quick note: The Argent Cyma is still in the works. I'm chasing down fine details with a couple of players, going back over some of my own notes, and all that other good stuff.

At present, my waiting list runs to Cronono, followed by you. I don't think anyone's likely to drop at this point.
