So...About that sewer - IC

With little other recourse Dookie shrugs and extends her arm towards the stairwell that lowers the group deeper into the sewers. Without a word No One takes the lead followed by Dookie, Margana, Swarbrick, and Wrench.

There isn't much in the way of flowing air this far down and the smell of sewage and mold measurably increases with each step downward. Other than the typical sounds of equipment shifting, breathing, and the occasional clack and moan of the steel steps being stepped on, the group can hear the slight sound of rushing...liquid. The mystery is soon solved as the party reaches a sewer tunnel.

Roughly twenty feet wide there is a trench in the middle of the tunnel, ten feet wide, and almost knee deep (depending on the party member) with running sewage flowing east to west (right to left). There is a metal grate to your backs that, despite ample rust and built up sewage, allows sewage to run but appears to be impassable. The north and south walls feature valves that appear to allow sewage into the tunnel.

As the group wades into the sewage Dookie manages to see a warforged drop from the shadows behind Wrench.

Surprise Round.

Dookie and the mysterious warforged get to take a standard action.

Surprise Round

Sloshing into the tunnel the party groups together to get their bearings. Out of the corner of her eye Dookie spots a figure dropping from the ceiling, probably from some pipe, to land behind Wrench. The red haired cleric yells out a warning prompting the the group to look for the attacker.

They spot the warforged as it speaks in a level tone, "You have the provosts journal. Give the journal to me and I will let you live. Refuse, and you will die in this sewer." To make his point the warforged attacks Wrench. The point, however, may be lost on everyone as the attack all but misses and clangs harmlessly off Wrenche's armor.

Round 1

Swarbrick spins around and, after fully recognizing that the new threat attacks Wrench in a most unspectacular of ways, looks unimpressed. Bringing his rapier to bear, the rogue pokes at the the enemy warforged. Whether it is the wall, Wrench, or the suddeness of his attack, Swarbrick misses his target. The changeling wants to bring the heavy hitter to the party and calls out "No One, your turn!"while dashing to his right.

The former soldier is up to the challenge and, expectedly, moves to take the vacated area Swarbrick just created. Spinning his flail as he moves the massive warforged swings in a pawerful overhanded arc which takes off a bit of wet masonry as it plows through the corner of the wall. Despite the impressive swing it comes up short.

Round 1 - Continued

Dookie, becoming increasingly frustrated, has no other option but to shout in frustration, ""Wrench! Will you please either beat him down or stop cockblocking me?!?"

It's at this point that a rather large Shifter rises out of the sewage to stand at full height. Though not as big as No One, this new enemy stands at least to No One's shoulders. To make matters worse, every party member can see that the skin not covered by its leather armor is changing from wet fur to what appears to be raised bone. Readying a dagger the Shifter howls. The sound is amplified by the enclosed space.

With little other option, the sneaky Warforged attacks Wrench again. Clearly, one on one combat is not this Warforged's forte and Wrench has to barely shift his hips to dodge the awkward rapier attack.

Round 1 - Continued

Wrench uses his momentum to dodge the rapier attack and spins to face the rogue Warforged. Wrench throws what looks like his best version of a haymaker. To those in the know it is readily apparent that the Artificer is not about that life and the punch hits nothing but air. Perhaps not interested in cockblocking, or just more than willing to allow No One to handle the threat, Wrench backs away quickly to move in front of Margana. The opposing Warforged tries to make Wrench pay for the move but again misses with his rapier.

It's at this point a loud metallic screech fills the chamber. After it's heralding, a fair bit of sewage dumps into the chamber, sloshing into the middle of the tunnel. Each party member clocks the force in which the sewage entered into the chamber. It is one thing to be standing in sewage, it is another thing entirely to have sewage dumped on you and possibly knocking you down to your knees.

Just as that unpleasant sound ends with a ringing in your ears, the smell hits your noses. That's bad enough but what is worse is the fact that another Shifter rises out of the sewage as the fresh dump sloshes about its thighs. Smaller and leaner than the other Shifter, Margana and Wrench recognize the newcomer from back at the Rats Market. The Shifter's appearance changes quickly, however, as its features take on a more feral appearance and his hands change to long sharp claws.

Margana calmy breaks down the rapidly changing battlefield that this sewer has become. Considering her options and weighing each with steady measure the conjurer pinches out a bit of sand and begins the incantation of an ancient lullaby.

Map is unchanged although the sewage dumped from the valve has settled.

Round 2

Swarbrick pulls out a dagger with his free hand and, with a bit of flair spins it for balance. Satisified, the changeling flicks his wrist with practiced ease sending the dagger into flight towards the Razorclaw Shifter. The Shifter tries to swipe at the incoming weapon, to knock it out of the air, but he misses and the small projectile buries itself into the shoulder of the enemy.

No One looks to ensure that the sneaky Warforged doesn't benefit from cover a second time and moves to effectively cut him off from the rest of his party. With his usual monotone No One offers, "I do not believe I can cockblock as I have no penis. Is that a correct assumption Devora?" While more than capable of doing two things at once the Psiforged focuses in on the combatant in front of him, "You have made a tactical error."

To emphasis the point No One sends his flail in a vicious swing that goes for the fences. The much smaller defender ducks under the swing and the flail hammers into moldy brick and mortar.

Round 2 - Continued

Looking to aid her Warforged ally, and apparently not too worried about the current battle, Dookie replies to No One conversationally while on the move, "Strictly speaking, Wunnie," the cleric begins moving in to attack,  "I would have to have a cock for you to literally cockblock me. Which I don't, other than a prosthetic."

Dookie ends the sentence with a gauntleted haymaker which misses badly. Seemingly unperturbed by the miss she ends her response, ""But I've left Lara in my rooms upstairs, and anyway I was being figurative. What I meant was that I badly wanted to punch at this Warforged, and Wrench was in my way."

The response is nearly drowned out as the beefed up Shifter growls loudly, the guttural sound bouncing off of the walls. In a blink of an eye it rushes towards Swarbrick looking to even the score with the Changeling. Things are becoming comedic in this battle as the Shifter almost loses his dagger at the end of his charge.

"I will cut out your tongue mouth breather" the shifty Warforged offers in what may be frustration towards Dookie. Looking to score a hit against flesh, despite the cover Dookie currently has, the rogue take a poke with its rapier. Dookie's scale male does it's job and the rapier bounces off the armor.

Round 2 - Continued

With the threat of an enraged Shifter suddenly within his dance space, Wrench decides that it's clobbering time and prepares to infuse his morningstar. The simple infusion isn't so simple in such a chaotic battle space and the Warforged Artificer loses the spell at almost the same time he begins casting it.

The ungodly sound of screeching metal occurs again, although a bit more muted this time around (perhaps there is an abundance of moss and sewage buit up on the parts), and with it the sewage. Spilling into the chamber with the same amount of force as before, it splashes down into the channel temporarily rising the sewage to above your ankles.

Unfettered by the slight rise of the foul smelling sewer, the second Shifter moves forward to stand in front of Wrench.

Round 2 - Final

Upon completion of her spell Margana regards her efforts cooly. Looking to finish her work, the Conjuress moves around three hundred pounds of adamantine shield that is Wrench. The Beasthide Shifter balks momentarily, perhaps surprised by the bold move. The moment goes by in a blink and the Shifter swipes at Margana. The small dagger barely draws blood but does score a hit.

Round 3

Swarbrick takes the temporary diversion that Margana provides and makes his move away from the Beasthide Shifter's attack. Whatever the reason, the move isn't elegant, but it is functional, and gets the changeling standing opposite of the enemy. The awkward move causes an even more awkward attack and Swarbrick's rapier hits nothing but air.

No One responds to Dookie, "Perhaps I can get a prosthetic cock then so that I may get cock blocked?"

The psychic warrior finishes his question by swinging for the fences at the head of the Warforged standing before him. The ringing of steel against mithral sounds like a dull ring of a dinner bell and causes the enemy Warforged head to bounce off of the wall. Inert from the hit, it falls backward.

Momentarily taking a look to ensure that the enemy is down, No One moves towards the lone standing Shifter.

Round 3 - Continued

Dookie keeps up the banter with her massive warforged ally. Clarifying her intent the cleric offers, "Usually getting cockblocked is a bad thing, Wunnie." Moving towards the helpless shifter, Dookie brings down her spike guantlet on its head. Striking solidly at the temple the shifter's head temporarily submerges and reappears with the shifter waking up sputtering in surprise and pain. Finishing her thought she tells No One, "Not that there isn't something to be said for a bit of pleasant frustration once in a while. But I don't even know if warforged get horny."

Whether it's the eerie calm banter, the downed warforged, or the fact that he is surrounded, the final shifter raises his arms in surrender. As if to accentuate his intent he drops the dagger into the sewer.

He doesn't appear to be scared and says, "I yield."

Board Rider

For the first couple of seconds the action stops as as quick as it started. With the break in action comes an eerie quietness which is broken by the sound of metal opening and releasing more sewage further down the chamber. The sudden addition of sewage causes the prone shifter to rise slightly to keep his head above the shit water.

In response Swarbrick looks to the prone enemy and offers, "Eh, Dookie...I thnk you're supposed to let sleeping dogs lie."

Dookie ignores the comment preferring to stare down the beasthide shifter.

"Surrender accepted, shitheel. Anything you cockgobblers wanna tell us about who put you up to this monumentally fuckin' stupid attempt at an ambush?"

The shifter relaxes slightly, lowering his arms a bit. Glancing at No One briefly to be sure his head doesn't become a punching bag, the enemy responds evenly, "We were hired by the warforged you dropped." The shifter nods towards the rogue warforged slumped on the stairwell.

"We were promised two gold a piece to help recover some book you took off of some human. We were told you interfered in an operation last night and dropped that one's fellow operator."

Talanall

"Figures," Dookie replies, cheerfully. "So long as you understand we're not going to be nice about things if we see you again, you two can fuck off now. And word to the wise: get paid something in advance next time. That way, if you get your assholes wrecked, you at least got paid something for the pleasure."

"Well now, wait just a second there, Dookie. Perhaps these fine gentlemen might be very gracious if someone else picked up their previous employer's contract." Swarbrick looks around the tunnel, "And they may know their way around this wonderous environment as well."

"Clearly their employer didn't tell him that his ultimate goal was the elimination of all living organisms so the warforged may inherit the world. You're lucky you weren't more successful."

Board Rider

Both shifters look to the group as they speak.

When Margana ends her statement, "Perhaps. But times are tough and we have mouths to feed. As they say in the markets," the beasthide shifter nods upwards towards the ceiling, "money talks."

Talanall
Talanall's picture

"Two gold is a lot of money," Dookie agrees, seemingly without any sarcasm behind the words. "You could buy the necessities from that Skakan fellow in the market for . . . I dunno, a long time. That's worth a lot of 'no questions asked.'"

"Then let's search the warforged for their coin and pay them for their services thus far. Certainly it should be sufficient pay to induce them from crossing our paths again. Of course, if you take payment to leave us alone, it would not go well for you if you were to draw weapons against us again." Margana doesn't elaborate, but her seeming willingness to kill the sleeping Shifter in cold blood should make it clear that it is no idle threat. She pulls a handkerchief and dabs at the scratch in her forearm.

"We aren't paying shit," Dookie breaks in.

Swarbrick frowns as he glances at the fetid sewage, "That is actually one thing we seem to have in some abundance."

"Pay them. Kill them. Release them. Leave them bound. It's no concern of mine."

Board Rider

At Margana's final statement the beasthide shifter's eyes move to everyone in the group.

Cautiously, the shifter offers, "Look. We don't need payment. Were mercenaries and this job went wrong."

Feeling a bit emboldened the prone shifter adds, "We will take our leave. About the only thing we can offer is that there is a door around the corner. We were to stop you from getting there. We don't know why."

If it helps the group to buy in on the statement the standing shifter drops his arms and stares incredulously at the other shifter as if the prone ally just threw away their last bargaining chip.

"Okay. Like I said, before, you two can fuck off." Dookie waves a hand dismissively.
